UCD is the world research and education center for biological agriculture and environmental sciences. With its crossed dominance among multiple disciplines such as intellectual capital of agriculture, food science, health science, gene science, bio-technologies, intellectual property rights, sustainable science, engineering, social sciences and anthropology etc., UCD has set up the World Food Center, in order to solve one of the pressing issues facing today’s society-- how to feed the humanity around the world in an environment-friendly and sustainable manner.

As the pre-eminent institution connecting visionary research and teaching with innovators, philanthropists, industry, and public and social leaders, we will drive economic, health, social, and environmental innovations in the world’s food system.
The World Food Center will build collaborations across the public and private sectors in California and globally to impact policy, and engage a broad spectrum of participants in many sectors, that comprise the food system, from fundamental research to food production and to nutrition, health, and well-being. By convening leading thinkers and implementers, the Center will enhance research and development capacities to tackle larger scale problems and increase the influence of research through transformation of science into practice and from ideas to policy.

Innovation center will cooperate with Agilent to jointly set up an international research and training center.
The research and training center contains the world's most advanced food testing equipment, such as high performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography, etc.
This center is a new innovative carrier of food safety field which was built by the China National Center for Food Safety Risk Assessment and Yangtze Delta Region Institute of Tsinghua University.

In 2013, the establishment was led by Zhejiang Gongshang University, participated by the Institute for Nutritional Sciences, Shanghai Institute for Biological sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences and Monell Chemical Senses Center.
Basic research direction: focus on the micro/nano micelle formation in food, food composition, characteristics, function; clarify the interaction between food ingredients and the digestive tract and its nutritional significance and so on.
