Roger Beachy, Member of U.S. National Academy of Sciences, Director of World Food Center of University of California, Davis, led a delegation and visited Weifang for cooperation in building a branch center.
On June 30, 2015, Roger Beacy, Member of U.S. National Academy of Sciences, Director of World Food Center of University of California, Davis, and Pan Zhongli, winner of 2008 Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers, responsible personnel of China region of World Food Center, Liu Gang, Chairman of American Harrens Lab, and Liu Jinbo, CEO of Weifang Sino-US Technical Communication Center, led a delegation and visited Weifang for discussion of the project of World Food Center.
The delegation visited China Food Valley base, High-Tech Demonstration Park for Vegetables of Shouguang. They showed high confidence in fully using the national predominance of Weifang in agriculture products and food processing, combining with Silicon incubator lab and China Food Valley, and integrating with the relevant agriculture department, research organization and institutions, to hold an international summit for agriculture products and food processing, thus to build Weifang into a world food center that integrates research, technical transfer and logistics, cross border e-commerce and so on.

Formal Signing Ceremony of Sino-US Food Center between University of California,Davis and Weifang City
On the afternoon of April 7th, the cooperation agreement between University of California, Davis and the Weifang Municipal People's Government in building Weifang Sino-US Food Center was formally signed in Fuhua Hotel. Liu Shuguang, the former Deputy Secretary of Municipal Committee and Mayor of Weifang, Sun Qisheng, the former Member of Municipal Standing Committee and Deputy Mayor of Weifang , Roger Beachy, Director of World Food Center of University of California, Davis, and Member of U.S. National Academy of Sciences attended the ceremony.
Weifang Sino-US Food Center is the first project of University of California, Davis which it conducts such cooperation around the global, the Center will comprehensively use the platform resources of University of California, Davis; through cooperation of sustainable agriculture and safe food production mode, construction of food safety system, seeds and seedlings, new low toxicity and bio pesticides, comprehensive system of pest control and other aspects, it will integrate the global resources in education, agriculture and food industry, science and technology, talents, policies, and build China Food Valley into an open international platform of high standard which integrates food safety, sustainable agriculture, food production and research and development, education and training, technical transfer, talent introduction, thus to play an important role in enhancing the food safety level and industry level in our city and even around the country and enhancing the ability of sustainable development .
At the same time, the Center will focus on the difficulties during the development of domestic and foreign enterprises, and be committed to the development of solution that integrates science and technology, technology transfer, fund support and park construction, to create a solution center for food problems with international influence and provide support for the development of food industry and food safety.

University of California, Davis and Weifang Municipal Government signed Memorandum of Understanding
On November 10th, the signing ceremony of Memorandum of Understanding between Weifang Municipal People's Government and UC Davis was held in the Fuhua Hotel. Liu Shuguang, the former Deputy Secretary of Municipal Committee and Mayor of Weifang met with Roger Beachy, the world's famous biological scientist for plants, Member of U.S. National Academy of Sciences, and Director of World Food Center of UCD as well as others. Sun Qisheng, the former Member of Municipal Standing Committee and Deputy Mayor of Weifang, on behalf of the municipal government, signed the agreement with University of California, Davis represented by Roger Beachy.
Weifang is China's important food production, processing and export base. It has good foundation for food processing industry with large scale, and it is one of the city's top six traditional industries. China Food Valley is a comprehensive platform where the high-end elements cluster and the transformation and upgrading of food industry is guided based on the new trend of food industry development and the public new demand for high level food safety.
The cooperation between both sides has symbolic significance, in promoting China Food Valley to a higher level of development. The municipal government will fully support the development of the project, to strengthen coordination and promotion and service guarantee, thus to create a good environment for cooperation and development, it is believed that the cooperation between both sides will achieve fruitful results.
According to the Memorandum, both sides will work together to build up Weifang Sino-US Food Center through cooperation with World Food Center of University of California, Davis, to integrate the global education, talents, technologies, industry and policy resources in the agriculture and food sector, to create an open international platform of high level, this move is expected to play an important role in promoting the food safety and industry level in the city and even around the country and enhance the ability of sustainable development.

World Food Center of University of California,Davis lands in Weifang
On the morning of April 30th, Vice Secretary of Shandong Province Party committee met Kiel Cindy, Vice President of University of California,Davis, and Professor Pan Zhongli, the responsible person of World Food Center,and personally witnessed the signing ceremony between Weifang Municipal Government and University of California, Davis for the joint efforts in establishing Weifang Sino-US Food Center. Sun Qisheng, the former Vice Mayor of Weifang City and Kiel Cindy, Vice President of University of California, Davis, as the representatives of the both sides signed the cooperation agreement. Song Chifeng, Director of Weifang High-tech District, Zhang Zengshun, Chairman of Council for Promotion of International Trade of Weifang, Wang Hao, Director of Overseas and Foreign Chinese Affairs Office, and Wang Yong, Director of Coordination and Promotion Office of China Food Valley also attended the ceremony.
Weifang Sino-US Food Center in China Food Valley is private and non-enterprise in nature, and jointly initiated by Weifang Food Co., Ltd., Weifang Qinglong Lake High-tech Industrial Park Development Co. Ltd., and University of California, Davis. The corresponding board of directors, technical steering committee, international advisory committee will be established, a liaison director of World Food Center and director of Sino-US Food Center will be set up to form a communication mechanism. At the same time, Weifang will also provide the necessary support for the completion of the agreement plan.The goals of the center include the establishment of a high level international cooperation platform for food safety, nutrition and sustainable agriculture that is geared for agriculture and food research and development and technical transfer, the talent plan, technical and industry objectives for five years will be identified. The completion of the annual tasks will be evaluated by a third party organization employed by the municipal government including prediction and risk control. Weifang Sino-US Food Center will complete the registration, office decoration, staffing, equipment procurement and so on within the year, and hold the high level international food forum in Weifang.
